Watterson Towers Renovation

March 2010 - August 2012

The Watterson Towers renovation project is now complete.

Project overview

• Updated the bathrooms on student floors
• Replaced furniture
• Added wireless capability throughout the residence hall
• Updated the overall appearance
• Insulated the connecting link of the building
• Expanded the sprinkler system
• Added overhead lighting in student rooms
• Repaired the exterior
• Wireless Internet was added to students' rooms
• Lobby enhancements - new front desk, painted, carpet flooring
• Fitness center relocated to formal level south tower
• Study area developed on informal level north tower
• Game area developed on informal level south tower
• Painting in public areas - formal, informal level lounges and service level
• Wireless access available on informal levels (top floor lounges)

Renovation details

Below are expanded descriptions of everything renovated during the project, along with photos.

Exterior

Concrete repairs and new sealant/paint. Replaced windows.

Restroom remodel

Complete remodel, including new wall tiles, floors, showers, sinks, fixtures, paint, and partitions. Also removed the existing lockers and added new lighting to brighten the space.

Student rooms

Overhead lighting was added, walls were painted during each phase, new fire alarm devices were added, closet doors were removed to create open floor plans similar to other campus residence halls.

Student room furniture

Two-sided mattresses installed during each phase (firm or plush); contemporary metal bed frames installed which are bunkable and loftable at various heights for storage underneath; optional loft kits for beds ordered and are available; cherry finish desk with storage drawers; two-position, upholstered chair, three-drawer, free standing dresser.

Suite lounges

Painted with an accent color corresponding to the area near the house’s elevator, new furniture for sitting areas and work areas, carpet replaced in the majority of suites.

Breezeways

Breezeway is another term for the hallway which connects the elevator to student living spaces. All breezeways have been insulated, painted, decorated with campus photography, and updated with new lighting, floor tiles, and safety enhancements.
