Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistant, Residential Programs

The Graduate Assistant for Residential Programs will serve as the primary assistant to the Assistant Director(s), Residential Life. This position will assist with overall campus housing programming including: living and learning and the department’s programming model, and a variety of other tasks associated with programming in the residence halls and apartment complexes. In this capacity, a variety of experience will be gained in on campus housing. The Graduate Assistant for Residential Programs will report to an Assistant Director, Residential Life.

Duties

  1. Assist in the coordination of all residence hall programming efforts (i.e. Themed- Living and Learning communities; Faculty Mentor program, Sustainability, and RA programming model, etc.)
  2. Assists with the training and development of the Resident Assistant staff.
  3. Responsible for the monitoring of the programming and faculty mentor budgets.
  4. Work with a variety of staff on and off-campus to ensure quality programs in the residence halls.
  5. Responsible for co-sponsorship opportunities with staff on campus (i.e. homecoming, pass it on program, etc)
  6. Collect data and assess the residential programming on an annual basis.
  7. Responsible for research on new and innovative programs and living and learning opportunities.
  8. Promotes diversity and community building activities.
  9. Must have sensitivity to multicultural issues and support a diverse environment.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

REMUNERATION

$875 stipend per month during the Fall and Spring semesters, and tuition waivers for Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions.  The appointment is for 10 months (from mid-July to mid-May). This Graduate Assistantship is a live-off position.              

Graduate Assistant, Staff and Leadership Development

The Graduate Assistant for Staff and Leadership Development will serve as the primary assistant to the Assistant Director, Staff and Leadership Development. This position will assist with departmental training, human resources, and leadership opportunities for students in the residence halls.

Duties

  1. Assist in the coordinaton of the annual "House Calls" program for University Housing Services.

  2. Coordinate wellness programs for staff each semester
  3. Assist in the development of the monthly training sessions for University Housing Staff using the UHS Competency Model
  4. Assist with the Move In Process for University Housing Services
  5. Update Move In Newsletter annually
  6. Assist in planning of Diversity Retreat for Non-Residential Life Staff
  7. Coordinate on-campus job fairs for student employment
  8. Assist areas of the department with on-going training needs
  9. Assist with recruitment, posting, and hiring of student, graduate, and full time positions
  10. Manage student employment database
  11. Create Student Employee handbook
  12. Assist in budget responsibilities for the area
  13. Oversee Staff and Leadership Development Library and Student Workers
  14. Other Duties as Assigned

Graduate Assistant, Student Development

The Graduate Assistant for Student Development will serve as the primary assistant to the Assistant Director, Student Development. This position will assist with student conduct, program planning, and sustainability efforts in the residence halls.

Duties

  1. Conducting administrative meetings
  2. Imposing and evaluating sanctions
  3. Advising the University Hearing Panel
  4. Assisting in coordinating on-campus educational outreach programs for the student judicial process
  5. Assisting in the development and maintenance of sanctions utilized by the disciplinary system to respond to student misconduct
  6. As time permits, may also provide assistance for other University Housing Services operations, including (but not limited to) Summer Conferences, policy manuals and websites review, billing appeals and the Association of Residence Halls' opening preparations and activities

All Graduate Assistantships require the following minimum qualifications:

Must be accepted into a graduate degree program prior to the starting date of assistantship contract with a minimum of 2.8 (on 4.0 scale) grade point average on the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work. Continuing graduate students must have a minimum 3.0 graduate GPA.
